Sanctuary, Ponta Delgada
Admire the altar of the Santuário do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres (Christ of Miracles) streaming from the city of Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Portuguese Azores archipelago , situated on São Miguel Island. An image of Christ is at this sanctuary in the Convent of Our Lady of Hope, in a Renaissance-style representation of the Ecce Homo . Annually, on the fifth Sunday after Easter the wooden image of Christ is taken in a Christian Roman Catholic procession through the streets of Ponta Delgada, in one of the oldest religious devotions in Portugal.
