The double-leaf bascule bridge crosses the Round Lake Channel, also known as Pine River Channel, which connects Lake Michigan to Lake Charlevoix passing through the smaller Round Lake - seen on the background. The bridge opens for the Beaver Island ferry and other boats, more often in summer, as the city of Charlevoix is a favoured holiday destination in Michigan.
